Here at Sutherland ED we are committed to improving the delivery of Point of Care ultrasound (PoCUS) by all who use ultrasound in the department.
Please read the section on Sutherland ED Ultrasound Guidelines at the beginning of your term with us. This outlines the expectations of anyone using the ultrasound in the ED, including saving images and standardised documentation. It also specifies who can use the ultrasound machine and act upon their scans.
Our Ultrasound Faculty is keen to support you through the ED credentialing process in the following ways:
Organising training on the ultrasound machines
Recommending credentialed instructional courses, including local free of charge credentialed courses
Updating the US notice board with upcoming courses and workshops
Supervising your scanning in the department
Signing off scans for your logbook
Running US workshops, including the procedural use of US, on teaching days
The upkeep of this PoCUS website with useful resources
Facilitating the employment of our ‘Sonographer Educator in ED’, Janine Lister, who is with us for 8 hours/wk to provide additional education to the consultants and registrars
This document outlines the faculty roles in more detail: TSH ED US Faculty and Roles
