Hi all

It has been raised to me a few times regarding the number of people who are in the ED tearoom at any one time & we are not following the rules of social distancing.

I have received clarification this am from Public Health via our ED stream meetings that the social distancing rules apply mainly to the community to avoid human to human transmission of COVID-19.

They recognise that it is very difficult in a hospital environment to observe the social distancing rules, and that as health professionals we should not be coming to work of we are unwell, we should be using appropriate PPE and hand hygiene at all times. However there are still a number of staff who are concerned about being in close proximity of each other – so the following options / rules now apply:

  1. Stagger your meal breaks so limiting the number of staff in tearoom at any one time i.e. start breaks at 12.00hrs, 12:30hrs, 13:00hrs & 13:30hrs
  2. Make use of other areas in ED such as Meeting Room 1, Tutorial Room & Courtyard for your meal breaks.
  3. Make sure you clean up after yourself and keep these areas clean and tidy from clutter and food items.
  4. Do not come to work if you are not feeling well – your colleagues don’t want your germs.
  5. If you are working in the HOT Zone – in surgical scrubs you must change out of these before you go and socialise in the tearoom or go and get coffee.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to come and see myself or Andrew.

Kind regards
