From: Gregory Cramery (South Eastern Sydney LHD) Sent: Friday, 27 March 2020 4:26 PM Subject: COVID-19 admissions to Sutherland Dear All, Just to update you all on the admission process for COVID+ve and COVID suspected patients at the current moment. As of today Warada has become a COVID-19 ward, only COVID-19 patients can be admitted to this ward until further notice. Beds 10-17 in CCM have become COVID-19 beds. New ward names for these areas are being created in line with MoH requirements and should be in place for Monday. All previous admission specialities who are not COVID-19 and were sent to Warada will be admitted to Cooinda. Patients cleared of COVID-19 will be decanted to Cooinda as soon as possible. Jara is now the only surgical ward in the hospital. Important points to know: * As before COVID+ve children and maternity patients will go to the respective wards * All COVID-19 patients not requiring CCM admission but requiring telemetry will be admitted to CCM and moved to Warada once telemetry ceased * Any suspected COVID-19 patients on other wards should be sent to Warada or CCM if clinically appropriate * Warada have the in charge in the morning and a respiratory access nurse in the afternoon to ensure there is capacity to accept COVID-19 patients, the PFC and AHNM will liaise with the ward * All COVID-19 patients must be moved as soon as clinical safe from ED to the single room on the appropriate ward * All COVID-19 patients will have a ceiling of care completed within 24 hours of admission * Known COVID+ve patients who present in respiratory failure will be sent to CCM for intubation as soon as possible. * High flow, NIV or nebulisers should not be given to the above patient group. In fact nebulisers across the site for inpatients is not currently recommended. * Suspected COVID+ve patients in respiratory failure will be risk assessed, those with high risk will require intubation and those with low risk may have NIV on Warada, as ordered by the Respiratory consultant. * ED may start the NIV if there is going to be a delay for a negative pressure bed on Warada, a single room may be used if there is no chance of making a negative pressure room. * The Respiratory teams have agreed to review patients in negative pressure room for suitability to create capacity before they are needed * There is an on call Respiratory and an on call COVID team, they are happy to be rung as appropriate Any questions or concerns, please let me know.
